He was a neat guy. It talked with him once after a lecture he gave
at UCSD. He gave the wise advice that just about anyone could do just about
anything, and that most of what's required is working at it and making a
nonzero amount of progress every day.
Trivia: when Robert Anton Wilson was in college at Notre Dame (?) he and his
friends founded a druidic sect so they could be excused from attending Sunday
Mass. Druids ordinarily sacrificed humans to nature but, because of technical
and moral problems with human sacrifice, they settled for sacrificing parts of
trees.
Later in a related effort RAW and company started their first mail-order
religion. You may be aquainted with decendents of that original effort.

interesting that you should mention a Turing machine...
it just so happens that my g/f is taking a "Intro to AI" course in which
she is making oodles o' Turing machines.... maybe I'll ask her to whip one up!
It might have to be hooked up to an infinite inprobabilty drive (unfortunatly)
in order to do the calculations in finite time....

He was found by his wife in their home, the victim of an apparent
heart attack. He was 62.
For those few IO users who don't recognize the name, RAW was the
