Re:My visit to Tampa......
Dear Mr. Ven. Maha Swami-ji B. Jeebees

Thank you for your missive. My God! I am speechless. I realise
Tampa is a bit of a tourist town, and often there are more Europeans
there than US Citizens but it is the cowboy "You ain't from round here
are ya boy?" mentality that puts me in fear of my sanity/life.

I'm sorry but any group of people who invent something called
line-dancing and think chewin' baccy is sophisticated - well they
deserve* respect*.

Still Tampa may be bad ( I guess) but my sister lives in Noth/South
Carolina - I visited there last year. It was an education. You remember
that film deliverance?....now I get it. The terms "Hickey and Redneck"
were applied liberally. Just what is the North / South thing you have?
In the UK it is the same I guess - the South being the most
prosperousand 'poncy' and the North constantly stereotyped as thick
and backward (Scotland is excluded here). Then there is Wales, or
rather the Welsh. I'll leave it there.

I personally think '83 was the essential eighties year: with a shamelessly
commericial party in the desert ( the Us festival ) ultimate escapisim in
" Return of the Jedi ", not to mention the Madonna-what's-his-name's
wedding, and our beloved vegtable-in-chief Ronnie giving us a quick
and simple little cluster-fuck in Grenada, that slackest of slacker wars
for a bunch of " I'm only in the Marines because I knocked
somebody up "slackers.

RE: Curfew at New Orleans,

Apparently it is true, the article was in a Brit Newspaper (a reliable
one - The Independent). The curfew is aimed at kids 17 and under -
keeping them off the streets. There is a new Juve hall where kids who
get caught are taken and their parent(s) contacted. They may also
incur a fine if repeat offending.

Apparently it is working too - crime is way down. Although I suspect
parental/child abuse is up.

Looks like they want to extend the law to other states too, civil rights
groups are fighting it tho'. Of course totalitarian rule is easier if 'they'
start with the kids, then it sets a neat prescedent. Tomorrow 1984!
