Prostata has mounted a CD of SubGenius videos -- not the ones from this week, but the ones I posted last month -- so one can now download OR PLAY THEM, STREAMING, from that site through a browser. Ya'll -- TRY SOME and tell me what works!

I will make a new CD for that site with the new AND old stuff, but I wanna feature just the formats that people USE. So tell me what you USE.

AVI is kind of a mostly-Windows video format. Thus still pretty common, especially among troglodytes and cave men

Quicktime (QT, or MOV) used to be more of a Mac thing, but actually it's sort of generic and underlies a lot of digital video.

MPEG is supposed to work on anything.

Windows Media or WMV is just another silly gates plot like that "Bob" operating system that no one used. They do tend to be SMALL and UGLY versions of a video.

RM only works in RealPlayer -- the ding-ee that plays radio on the Internet. It also plays TV in a grotty way.
In article <0mq68.13563$Up4.975531@e3500-atl1.usenetserver.com>, Ned Wreck <NedWreck@usenetserver.com> asked this about the SubGenius video clips I've been posting:

?? Same way you look at your PORNO!!

Don't you just... CLICK on them, and they jump off the screen and spring to life, play for about 10 seconds and then freeze up your computer?

Actually this posting of little videos has been really educational for me. I tend to assume that most people are like me when they get on the Internet -- the first thing they did was learn how to get to the pornography. And that's an excellent technical training ground, because the pornographers have by far the best Internet tech and use the most advanced ways of getting dirty pictures out.

These files are all MOVIES, with soundtracks. Videos actually. On a regular Windows or mac type home machine you would drag the file over to a video player program and then push the play buton when you saw the screen.

I had indeed assumed that all home computers nowadays come with video players, DVD players, all that frilly shit.

However, little digital videos like this can be made in many ways, from very low-res to very high. But older machines can onl play low-res videos. These are mostly upper-medium-res. Except the "RM" or RealPlayer files, they're very undemanding, if your gear can run RealPlayer at all.

My older Mac would choke on anything but low-res, small-screen size videos.

I guess the QTVR files that have been posted by me and IMBJR on occasion must REALLY perplex some people.

When you're a Mac user like me, but don't want to look like a jerk, you have to learn all the formats for ALL the computer systems.

Windows users are the only ones who can act like jerks all the time, with impunity. On Mac or unix you have to EARN impunity.

I have also been assuming that people without DSL or cable weren't downloading these giganto files at all.
