I came across this quote in a news article about how the Columbine jocks
ruled the school. They used to torment whoever they wanted with impunity,
apparently. There seems to have been a pattern at Columbine of
administrative jock-coddling. For example, complaints by a Jewish parent
whose son was being tortured were completely ignored by the school
administration. Now, however, things have all changed. The quote:

" Senior Adam Foss said that since the tragedy, the
cliques seem to have disappeared.

'All the barriers are gone," he said. "People come
up to you and throw their arms around you and tell
you how they love you -- students you never even
thought you could talk to before.'"

Which leads me to quote Webster's Revised Unabridged Dictionary:

"Expiation \Ex`pi*a"tion\, n. [L. expiatio: cf.F. expiation] 1. The act
of making satisfaction or atonement
for any crime or fault; the extinguishing of guilt by suffering or
penalty.
2. The means by which reparation or atonement for crimes or sins is
made; an expiatory sacrifice or
offering; an atonement."

Lives were lost on both sides in the debacle. Did the Trenchcoat Mafia's
bloody offerings heal the school? Was vengeful JHVH-1 hunger for
old-Testament justice sated? Were the Columbine Two just tools in the
supernatural grip of an invisible space monster who will not tolerate
asshole jocks tormenting Jewish kids? Was the blood of children the price
exacted on a community of adults who chose to look the other way when
justice was needed?

I don't believe this shit, by the way.
