09.14.01 - A Flash! A Crash! Our bedroom was filled with a brilliant white
light. Our home shaken by the loudest BANG! I have ever heard in my life. We
both jumped out of bed with the fear that something, somewhere near, had
gone terribly wrong. That is when we heard the down-pour of rain. Another
flash of light and a more distant, not so loud, roar of thunder. The earlier
predicted storm has hit. We held each other in relief as both my wife and
myself, uneasily, dozed off back into our independent world of dreams.

The rain continues this morning as we rise to start yet another day. I know
it's dis-respectful to fly an American flag in the rain, but I was compelled
to do so today, no disrespect intended. So I put out our 4x6 flag and my
large 10' flag, tied to the front porch railing, draped over our flower
garden.

Last night, they caught suspected terrorists trying to board aircraft at
both Kennedy airport and LaGuardia. I forget at which airport they actually
did get on board an airplane. It was found that they had phony credentials
including phony pilot licenses. They were also found to have been armed with
knives. As I feared, it's not nearly over folks.

Now that they know it will be nearly impossible to get on an airplane
anytime soon, what is their plan B? I wondered this as I boarded a nearly
empty subway train today thinking to myself, "There is no security here at
all, I could very well have a bomb in my bag and no one knows it." Then I
looked around me at the few people on the train, that's when I thought, "And
so could they." So how many plans do they have? How many more "moles" are
there, living right here amongst us NY'ers? I could have passed them on the
expressway. I may have given a terrorist the finger while driving to the
train station. I feel as though we have been invaded and our enemy has the
perfect guise, us.

I am afraid of not being afraid. I wasn't afraid before the towers were hit.
I am now, so maybe nothing more will happen.
